EV Charging 101
What are the different types of EV chargers?
- Level 1 - Days: Slowest, plugs into standard 120V outlet.
- Level 2 - Hours: Most common, requires professional installation, provides faster charging.
- DC Fast Charging (Level 3) - Minutes: Fastest, uses direct current, found at public charging stations.
How long does it take to charge an EV?
Charging time depends on charger type, battery size, and charging speed. Level 1 is slowest (days), DC Fast Charging is fastest (minutes).
What is the difference between AC and DC EV charging?
AC charging converts alternating current to direct current for the battery (for example, charging your phone). DC charging directly supplies direct current to the battery.
What is a charging connector?
The plug that connects the charger to the EV. Common types include SAE J1772, CCS, and CHAdeMO.
How does cold weather affect EV charging?
Battery efficiency decreases in cold weather, which can reduce charging speeds.
Can I over charge my EV?
Most modern EVs have built-in charging management systems to prevent overcharging.
Is it bad to charge an EV to 100%?
Frequently charging to 100% can slightly impact battery lifespan over time, but modern EVs have built-in protections to mitigate this. For optimal battery health, consider charging to 80% or 90% for daily use and only charging to 100% when necessary for long trips.
Can I fast charge my EV everyday?
Frequent fast charging can also impact battery life, but occasional use is okay.

In the rare event of equipment failure, what support is there to get the DC charger operational?
The Free2move eSolutions charge point management system (CPMS) will monitor DTCs that are tied to both software and hardware. We can provide diagnostics based on the DTC’s though the hotline +1 (833) 32-CHARGE.
Assuming no purchase of extended warranty and failure <2-years, how do I order parts and give technician install instructions?
We will provide a hotline to contact for parts and assistance.
Assuming purchase of extended 5-year (parts & labor) warranty, how do I keep the equipment maintained and fixed if broken?
Maintenance schedule should be provided in the user manual supplied once the unit is purchased.
